VANCOUVER -- The Clark County medical examiner's office says a body found in the Columbia River is that of a 25-year-old Vancouver man who disappeared while swimming.

The medical examiner's office said Nicholas Melum died in an accidental drowning.

The Columbian reports the man went under on the evening of Sept. 1 at the Vancouver Landing dock. His body was found three days later.

Melum was reportedly swimming near the dock when he called for help. Police said nearby teens jumped in and threw him a life ring, but were not able to rescue him.
