NEWBERG, Ore. – A 45-year-old Gresham man died after he reportedly fell out of the cab of a pickup truck on Highway 240 west of Newberg Tuesday.

When emergency responders arrived, they found Ronald Toby dead along the highway just after 8 p.m.

The driver of the truck, Phillip Lockwood, 42, of Newberg, said his passenger door suddenly opened and Toby fell to his death, according to Lt. Eric Davenport, with Oregon State Police.

Investigators said alcohol may have been a contributing factor for Toby and he was not wearing a seat belt.

The highway was closed for about three hours while police collected clues at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
