MADRAS, Ore. Police are seeking additional witnesses in a crash that killed two people near Madras on July 19.

Troopers said a Subaru Legacy driven by Warren Ward, 91, was part of a group of cars attempting to pass a vehicle on Highway 97 around 5:30 p.m. when it ran head-on into a Ford Explorer. Both cars came to rest on the side of the highway and a small fire started on the front end of the Subaru.

Both Ward and the driver of the Ford Explorer, Harold Curtis, 71, of Antelope, died. A woman who was riding in the Ford Explorer had non-life threatening injuries.

The Oregon State Police said they have only interviewed one witness who remained at the scene but they believe there were other witnesses.

Troopers released photographs from the scene which show a white commercial truck, likely from out-of-stae, stopped on the southbound shoulder near the crash scene.

Police said the truck left before they could talk with the driver. Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact Oregon State Police.
