VANCOUVER -- A man was arrested early Monday morning for firing his gun after he said prowlers were on his Vancouver property, police said.

Deputies were called just before 3:30 a.m. to several 911 reports of shots fired and people yelling in the 5800 block of Northeast 124th Street, said Sgt. Fred Nieman of the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

At the scene deputies spoke with a property owner who said he had fired his gun and chased off some prowlers who were near his car, Nieman said.

Deputies did not find any suspects. The property owner, 52-year-old Jeffery Barton, was then arrested for illegal aiming or discharging of a firearm.

He was booked in to the Clark County jail. The investigation was ongoing.
