MEDFORD, Ore. -- A Jackson County sheriff's spokeswoman says a Medford, Ore., couple who failed to show up at a friend's cabin in southern Oregon have been rescued after their vehicle got stuck in three feet of snow.

Spokeswoman Andrea Carlson says 66-year-old Linda Guches stayed with the vehicle while her husband, 68-year-old Dave Guches, walked four miles looking for help.

Carlson says that because the couple told friends the route they planned to take, searchers were able to locate their vehicle quickly Monday afternoon on a Bureau of Land Management road. Both were in good condition.

They had been headed to a cabin in southern Douglas County.

Carlson says their experience is a reminder for drivers to avoid unmaintained roads in winter, tell someone the route they plan to take and carry several days' supplies.
