PORTLAND -- An Aloha woman was sentenced to two years in prison for accidentally hitting a pedestrian with her car and killing him a year ago.

Niklas Baker, 23, was walking across Canyon Road near SWWatson Avenue on Nov. 30th, 2011 when he was struck by Samantha Gormiley's car, police said. He died at the scene.

Gormiley, 23, remained at the scene and talked to investigators. Police believe she was speeding when she struck Baker. There was no evidence of impairment, police said.

The driver was initially charged with manslaughter in the second degree and reckless driving. But Gormiley later reached a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide.
