PORTLAND Record rains hammering Portland in June will take a break as summer officially starts Wednesday afternoon.

The high was expected to hit 78 Wednesday and 82 on Thursday, said KGW meteorologist Nick Allard. After that, spring temperatures return through the weekend, with Friday and Saturday highs in the mid 60s along with showers.

For June of 2012,rain levels were already at nearly 2-and-a-half inches by Tuesday, compared to the average of 1.7.

The temperatures are cooler than average, coming in at 68 degrees, compared to an average of 73. On the bright side, Portland has hit 80 degrees eight times in 2012, Allard said. Last year, that happened just once all year.
