PORTLAND -- The Portland State University class of 2012 is the largest graduating class in Oregon University history, school officials said.

An estimated 6,165 members of the class received their diplomas Sunday afternoon.

They came from 50 countries and nearly every state in the union, and ranged in age from 19 to 72, PSU spokesman Scott Gallagher said. And they had a crowd of nearly 20,000 to cheer them on.

The class received approximately 4,400 bachelor's degrees, 1,700 master's degrees and 65 Ph.D. degrees.

The majority of graduates from the PSU class of 2012 are women, who make up 55 percent of bachelor's graduates, 60 percent of master's graduates and 59 percent of Ph.D. graduates.
