BURNS, Ore. -- One person was killed in a fiery crash east of Burns Monday night.
Police said the crash happened along Highway 20, about 31 miles east of Burns, just after 9 p.m. A semi-truck hauling cardboard was disabled on the side of the road due to mechanical problems and partially blocking a westbound lane.
A short time later, a car crashed into the back of the flatbed trailer and the collision sparked a fire. The driver of the car died at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck was not seriously injured. The fire destroyed the car, the truck and all the cardboard.
Investigators said conditions were dry but there was no overhead road lighting.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or drove through the area prior to it and saw the stopped disabled truck was urged to call Senior Trooper Timothy Thomas at (541) 573-6132 ext. 26, and aid in the investigation if possible.
