GOLD BEACH, Ore. Two couples were lucky to be alive after they were swept into the water near Gold Beach at about the same time Friday morning.

Wave surges just before 10 a.m., near the mouth of the Pistol River in Curry County, pulled the couples out into the water, Curry County Sheriff John Bishop said.

One couple was rescued immediately, while the other couple was in the water a bit longer, he added. They were about 50 yards offshore.

None of the four people suffered life threatening injuries. One woman was taken to a local hospital for observation.

The couples did not know each other. Neither couple was aware that a Tsunami Warning was in effect, Bishop said.
