RAW AERIALS: Only hours after the eruption we flew over this man crawling through the mud flows to try to get to safety. Roads and bridges had been destroyed stranding hundreds of people. And many were trapped as the wall of mud, boulders, entire trees, cars and most of the water from what was Spirit Lake careened down the Toutle River valley, headed eventually for the Columbia.
