LONGVIEW, Wash. A computer virus tried to hold a Longview auto dealership for ransom this weekend, but a savvy IT expert didn t fall for the scam, according to a newspaper report.

The virus infected the computer systems for the McCord Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep dealership, froze its systems, and said all the company s records would be destroyed unless it ponied up $3,000, according to the Longview Daily News.

Dean Ketcherside, the dealership s IT guru, was hip to the grift and told the paper he wasn t going to submit to terrorism.

Ketcherside backed up the dealership s files Friday, so only a few receipts from Saturday were lost.

Other than being a little annoying, the virus did not cause any major problems. No sensitive customer information was reportedly in danger.
