PORTLAND A man was found dead Friday night and another man was hospitalized after their kayak overturned Friday afternoon in McNary Lake off the Multnomah Channel near Sauvie Island.

The body of Dim Dy, 41, of SE Portland was found about 10 p.m. Friday night about 50 feet from where he went in the water.

A second man was taken to the hospital earlier Friday in serious condition with hypothermia.

The men capsized in a single kayak close to the Gilbert River Boat Ramp at around 2:30 p.m. The men tried to swim to shore, but only one man made it.

Rescue teams from Columbia County and dive teams from Multnomah County searched for the missing man.

Neither man was reportedly wearing a life jacket. Authorities said the men were drinking alcohol.
