PORTLAND -- A crash on Highway 18 in Polk County left three people, including an 18-month-old girl, seriously injured Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Just after 4 p.m., a van headed eastbound near Otis crossed over the center line and crashed into a westbound car, said Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings.

The driver of the car, 34-year-old Megan Goss of Portland, was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital. Her 18-month-old daughter was taken by helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

The driver of the van, 28-year-old Joshua D. Lesmeister of Tenino, Wash., was taken by helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University.

Hastings said all of the injuries were serious, but not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators do not know why the van crossed into the westbound lanes. They've asked that anybody with information call Senior Trooper Bryan Fitch at 541-265-5354 or send an email here.
