WASHOUGAL, Ore. -- A SWAT team was called in after a Washougal man reportedly stabbed his caregiver and then refused to come out of his home, police said.
Police were called just after 1 a.m. to the report of a stabbing at 122 Thorp Lane.
The homeowner, 73-year-old David L. Simmons, had stabbed his live-in caregiver and then refused to go outside and speak with arriving deputies, said Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox.
Because it was unknown if Simmons was armed, the Clark County SWAT team was requested and was able to safely remove Simmons from the residence by about 6 a.m., Cox said.
The victim, 30-year-old Amy Mason, was taken to Peace Health Medical Center. Her condition was not released.
Simmons was taken into custody and investigators were working to find out exactly what happened, Cox said.
