BAKER CITY, Ore. Two NASCAR race cars were damaged in a trailer fire on Interstate 84 north of Baker City Friday, police said.

The fire broke out after a tire on the trailer caught fire around 8:30 a.m.

John Wood, 51, from Eagle, Idaho was westbound on the interstate when the fire began spreading around the trailer, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.

Wood pulled over at a rest area where firefighters responded and put out the fire.

Wood was en route to a race in Monroe, Wash.

One of the cars was significantly damaged. The other had windshield and front-end damage, Hastings said.
