CANBY, Ore. -- Firefighters worked together to free a llama stuck in the mud up to his belly in Canby Tuesday night.

The 14-year-old llama, named Sgt. Pepper, got stuck in the edge of a muddy creek bed along Central Point Road.

He was found late Tuesday afternoon by his owner, who called dispatchers for help.

Sgt. Pepper's owner said it did not look like the llama was suffering, but he could not get out on his own.

Crews were able to tranquilize him and pull him out of the mud just after 6 p.m.
