Matt Zaffino attends NASA satellite launch
KGW’s Matt Zaffino is attending a NASA rocket launch today at Vandenberg Air Force Base just outside Lompoc, California.
LOMPOC, Calif. KGW Chief Meteorologist Matt Zaffino was on-hand for a NASA rocket launch Monday at Vandenberg Air Force Base just outside Lompoc, California.

The successful launch sent up a Landsat satellite, which will orbit the earth and take measurements of continents and surrounding coastal regions.

The satellite provides the imagery used by Google Earth, Zaffino explained. Landsat satellites have provided the longest-ever continuous global record of Earth's surface, including high-resolution images of urban growth, natural disasters and other changes in ecosystems.
