PORTLAND -- A group of Oregon high school students waited out Superstorm Sandy stranded in New York.

West Linn High School Principle Lou Bailey told KGW 8 student members of the mock trial team were stranded in New York along with two coaches and several parent chaperons.

They flew to New York last Thursday, had a weekend competition, and were supposed to fly home Monday, but the flight was canceled. The group is waiting out the storm in a Brooklyn hotel with no power and little in the way of communication, Bailey said.

Student Megan Mueller said everyone felt safe. They were in a cluster of buildings, damping the wind, and high up in the building.

They're not expected to return until Saturday.
