PORTLAND -- An employee robbed in a donut shop Wednesday chased down the suspect, took her gun away, beat her with it and retrieved the stolen money.

Oh no, you're not getting away with this, Jenny Abarca told KGW as she described the encounter.

The Daylight Donut Shop, in the 2600 block of SE 122nd Avenue, was robbed just before noon, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.

Abarca said the suspect was pacing back and forth, then pointed a finger at her.

She said 'give me all the money you got.' She made me open the cash register, but she was yelling at me, Abarca said.

The thief took the money and ran outside. On an impulse, Abarca ran after her, catching up near an exterior wall.

I tackled her into the wall. She was screaming and yelling. We were wrestling and I was pushing her away, Abarca said.

She managed to wrestle both the gun and the stolen money away, and hit her with the weapon. The suspect was skinny, but strong.

I thought she was going to overpower me. She had force. Even though she was skinny she had force, Abarca said.

The suspect managed to get free and fled.

Abarca returned to the donut shop and finished the shift she had just started.

Sgt. Simpson said the weapon was a realistic-looking BB gun.

The suspect was described as a white woman in her 30s or 40s, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds. She was wearing a dark blue hooded jacket, a black stocking cap, dark sunglasses and blue jeans. She may have injuries to her face after being hit with the gun.

Anyone with information was asked to call Portland police at (503) 823-0400.
