PORTLAND The Multnomah County River Patrol is gearing up for what's expected to be a wild weekend on the Willamette River.

In preparation for the anticipated crowds the county instituted a brand-new no-wake zone Friday morning along the Holgate Channel.

And with temperatures expected to get into the 80's and all sorts of river activities planned this weekend, officers are gearing up.

We expect there are going to be a lot of boats on the water, especially with the Brew Fest, said Sgt. Travis Gullberg, and we will have extra patrols out.

Safety enforcement will also be critical Sunday, when more than a thousand rafters and inner-tubers will take to the Willamette River downtown for the first ever Big Float.
