Tipper Gore does not believe a Portland massage therapist s claim that former Vice President Al Gore sexually assaulted her.

The latest issue of People Magazine quotes a close friend of Tipper who said Gore s wife was standing by his reputation and disputing the allegations against him.

Tipper and Al are currently separated but Tipper s friend said that the investigation had nothing to do with their marriage problems.

Tipper has known about these allegations since Al found out about them himself. She has known that massage has been very much a part of his health regimen for many, many, many years. She doesn't believe any of the allegations, the 'friend' told People in an exclusive interview. They played no role whatsoever in their decision to separate.

Last week, Portland police announced that they were re-opening the 2006 case against Gore.
