BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A Beaverton youth lacrosse coach was arrested for 10 counts of sex abuse against a 16-year-old exchange student he was hosting.

When I first heard about it my stomach dropped because it makes you sick, said Desiree Mandac, who lives next door to the suspect.

Washington County Sheriff s deputies said they think 50-year-old Craig Ley used his position as a father figure to take advantage of the 16-year-old starting in 2009. Police were notified after relatives of the victim came to visit.

Investigators were also concerned there could be more victims, since this boy was not the first exchange student Ley has hosted.

Whether they're from local schools, the lacrosse league, or other exchange students, we're hoping somebody knows something and they can contact sheriff's detectives, said Sergeant Vance Stimler.

Ley is a coach with the Beaverton Youth Lacrosse League. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Beaverton High School lacrosse.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Washington County Sheriff s Office at (503) 846-2700.

Ley's bail was set at $1.3 million.

Beaverton Youth Lacrosse released a statementTuesday saying Ley was let go by the organization:

Beaverton Youth Lacrosse is deeply saddened to learn of the arrest of one of our coaches on charges of sexual abuse of a 17 year old high school student. Upon learning these serious charges, the Board of Directors of Beaverton Youth Lacrosse voted unanimously to relieve Craig Ley of all coaching and other responsibilities within the organization, pending a full and complete investigation by the authorities.

All coaches and volunteers associated with Beaverton Youth Lacrosse are required to undergo a background check. Mr. Ley was no exception to this policy. Throughout his tenure with Beaverton Youth Lacrosse, there have been no allegations of misconduct of any kind involving Mr. Ley, and he has, by all accounts, been a committed volunteer coach.
