PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon is among 25 states to which the federal government is directing $2.4 billion in grants for the electric car industry.

The largest share of the money is going to Indiana and Michigan, but three companies at least partially based in Oregon will split about $340 million from the program.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski says the investments help solidify Oregon's role as a leader in the electric car industry.

He also noted that Oregon was one of five test markets for a Phoenix-based grant recipient called eTec. The company plans to deploy 5,000 electric vehicles and 12,750 charging stations.
