VANCOUVER -- A Vancouver middle school was briefly locked down Monday morning when a student brought a toy gun into the building, officials said.

The lockdown at Frontier Middle School started at about 9:30 a.m. and was lifted by 10 a.m., said Evergreen Public Schools spokeswoman Gail Spolar.

School resource officers were working to find out why the student brought the gun to school.

Spolar said students are prohibited from bringing weapons, or items that can be mistaken as weapons, onto school property.

District officials released the information on the toy gun to the public as quickly as possible, Spolar said, to make sure parents knew their children were safe.

A student was arrested in October for bringing a handgun, more than 400 rounds of ammunition and multiple knives to the school.

We didn't want rumors going out and people worrying, Spolar said Monday. There was never any danger to students this morning.
