GLADSTONE, Ore. -- Searchers found an infant's body in a Clackamas park Tuesday. The mother told investigators her baby boy had been murdered at a Gladstone motel and then taken to the woods, police said.

The mother contacted police on Monday and reported the murder. She said her 5-month-old son was killed and then his body was left in a wooded area in Clackamas County, according to officer Eric Graves with the Gladstone Police Department.

With her help, members of the Clackamas County Search &Rescue team found the baby's body Tuesday at 2 a.m., in an unnamed park, Graves said.

Investigators believe the baby was taken to the wooded area on Saturday, December 7th, between 12:15 pm and 1:40 pm. They also believe the baby was transported to the area by the occupant(s) of a blue Chevrolet Blazer with Oregon plates, Graves said.

The vehicle was later recovered in Salem but police are still searching for the driver. They said the baby's mother continues to cooperate with investigators and is not considered a suspect.

KGWbegan to unravel the mystery surrounding this baby's death after workers and employees at the Gladstone Budget Inn shared some concerning information.

Peggy Kampen is the head of housecleaning at the Budget Inn. She said a couple with a baby checked into the motel last week and then checked out over the weekend without the infant.

Kampen's co-worker also felt it was odd that the couple left the baby's clothing behind in the trash.

Customers at the motel recalled seeing the trio and said the couple did not appear to be taking good care of the baby.

Later, a woman named Jennifer Dalbey shared more disturbing details with KGW. Dalbey said a woman she met at a Salem motel on Monday told her that her boyfriend had suffocated her baby and got rid of the body.

Dalbey drove the woman to the police department and encouraged her to tell everything to investigators.

It breaks my heart, said Dalbey.

Anyone with information that may help police was asked to call detective Kevin Voss at (503) 557-2762.
