PORTLAND -- Investigators arrested two men Thursday evening for setting fire to a dumpster near a Southeast Portland school in March.

The fire was set on March 6, 2013 at Mill Park School, located at 1900 SE 117th Ave., said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson. The flames did not extend to the school as the 911 caller originally reported.

Daniel Cristurean, 24 (pictured right), and Jonathan Weatherall, 24 (pictured left), turned themselves in to investigators.

They were charged with booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of reckless burning, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

Arson investigators said numerous tips from the community led to the identification of both suspects.

Dumpster fires are dangerous in that they can quickly ignite neighboring structures such as homes, apartments, and businesses, Simpson said. School fires can have a devastating economic and educational impact.
