The Portland Winterhawks evened up the WHL Western Conference Finals Sunday night at the Rose Garden with a 2-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs. The series now shifts to Spokane for games 3 and 4.
The Chiefs opened the scoring 17 minutes into the first period with a nice shot from Matt Marantz from the left faceoff circle to take a 1-0 lead. 33 seconds later, Portland's William Wrenn tied the game with a goal from the point. It was his first career goal in the playoffs.
Midway through the second period, a Portland power play produced a scrum at the net that resulted in Ryan Johansen tapping in the puck for a 2-1 Winterhawks lead. That would stand as the game's final.
The win ensures a game 5 to be played Saturday night at the Rose Garden. Tickets are currently on sale.
