PORTLAND – The Portland Winterhawks are set to take on the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Hockey League Championship.

The series is a rematch of last year’s final, which Edmonton won in seven games.

The Oil Kings edged out the Calgary Hitmen in seven games to take the Eastern Conference Championships.

On Wednesday, Portland Winterhawks defenseman Seth Jones was awarded the WHL Rookie of the Year at the league’s annual awards ceremony in Calgary, Alberta.

Jones had 56 points in 61 games in the regular season, first among the league’s rookie defensemen. He’s also helped lead the Winterhawks to their third straight WHL championship series with 13 points in 15 playoff games.

Game one against Edmonton starts Friday at the Rose Garden at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the game and a schedule are available at winterhawks.com.
