SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs took Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals Friday, by a score of 8-3 over the Winterhawks, to even the series at 2-2.
The teams face off in Game 5 at the Rose Garden at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Chiefs opened the scoring 10 seconds in, with a Matt Marantz goal, but the Hawks evened the game at the 10:54 mark when defenseman Joe Morrow scored.
The Chiefs added one more in the period.
Spokane went up 3-1 in the second period on a goal by Collin Valcourt. The Winterhawks got one more from a Tyler Wotherspoon goal to cut the Chiefs’ lead to 3-2.
Spokane came back with another two to take a 5-2 lead into the third period.
Two more Spokane goals early in the third gave them a 7-2 lead.
Another Chiefs goal in the third, immediately followed by a power play goal from Portland’s Ryan Johansen, left the score at 8-3.
It was the team-leading 10th goal of the playoffs for Johansen.
Game 6 will be in Spokane Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
