PORTLAND -- Fans had fun donating more than 10,000 stuffed animals to charity at the Portland Winterhawks' annual "Teddy Bear Toss" game Saturday night.
For the second straight year Ty Rattie scored the first Winterhawks goal, which cued the toss.
The sellout crowd of more than 10,000 fans began throwing teddy bears and other stuffed animals onto the ice.
"Rattie’s goal brought 10,249 stuffed animals cascading onto the ice," said Graham Kendrick with the Winterhawks. Rattie scored within the first three minutes.
That was just the beginning for Rattie, who also had three assists to finish with four points. The Winterhawks beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-1.
The stuffed animals will be donated to several charities.
