The Portland Winterhawks fell 3-2 in Game 3 of the Western Hockey League Final Tuesday in Edmonton to the Oil Kings.
The Winterhawks took a 2-0 lead in the first period, beginning when Chase De Leo snapped a shot past Tristan Jarry at the 2:38 mark, followed 52 seconds later by Matt Dumba scoring on a shot from the slot.
It remained 2-0 until the 4:11 mark of the second when Edmonton’s Henrik Samuelsson scored a power play goal to cut Portland’s lead to 2-1. The Oil Kings tied the game at the 11:04 mark when Luke Bertolucci scored to make it 2-2, which remained the score going into the third.
The Oil Kings’ Edgars Kulda scored 13:13 into the third to take a 3-2 lead, which remained as the final.
Corbin Boes made 35 saves on 38 shots for Portland, while Jarry made 35 saves on 37 shots for the Oil Kings.
The teams are back on the ice in Edmonton tomorrow night for Game 4, and there will be a Game 5 back in Portland Friday at the Moda Center.
