PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -- The Portland Winterhawks beat Prince George Tuesday for their third straight win, raising them atop the Western Conference.
The 6-3 win started with a goal at the 13:01 mark of the first with defenseman Troy Rutkowski scoring his eighth goal of the season.
The Hawks never let up, going 4-0 in the third with a Brendan Leipsic goal at 5:42.
Portland was 1-7 on the power play and 6-6 on the penalty kill. The Hawks outshot the Cougars 39-35.
The the two teams meet again Wednesday night.
