SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Defender Ramiro Corrales scored his first two goals of the season, both on free kicks in the second half, and the San Jose Earthquakes beat Chivas USA 4-0 Sunday night.
Defender Victor Bernardez scored on a free kick early in the game, and midfielder Simon Dawkins added a goal from close range late in the first half for San Jose (16-6-5). The Earthquakes moved back into sole possession of the MLS lead with 53 points — three ahead of Sporting Kansas City.
Corrales' second goal in the 82nd minute was the Earthquakes' MLS-leading 56th, and eclipsed their previous franchise record of 55 set in 1997.
Chivas USA (7-11-7) had several solid scoring chances in the first half, but couldn't get anything past San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch, who recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
