PORTLAND -- The Portland Thorns FC held a rally Wednesday at Jeld-Wen Field celebrating their championship win in the National Women's Soccer League's first season.
The rally Wednesday was free and open to the public.
"It's been great to come home to a city you put so much pride into playing wearing that jersey and playing for Portland and seeing that reaction," said Thorns goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc at Wednesday's rally.
The Thorns shut out the top-seeded Western New York Flash with a 2-0 win Saturday in Rochester, N.Y.
The Thorns' fans also led the league in attendance for the inaugural season, averaging more than 13,000 in attendance per game. And they filled Portland International Airport on Sunday to welcome the champs home (see video below).
Thorns radio announcer Ann Schatz hosted the event, which included messages from head coach Cindy Parlow Cone and select players, as well as the NWSL championship trophy presentation and an autograph-signing session.
Due to national team call-ups and prior commitments, Rachel Buehler, Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan, Allie Long, Christine Sinclair and Tiffany Weimer will not be there.
