PORTLAND – It was a triumphant return for the Portland Thorns Sunday at the Portland International Airport.
The Thorns are the National Women’s Soccer League champions and were greeted by throngs of adoring fans.
The Thorns beat the Western New York flash 2-0 Saturday in Rochester, New York.
It was a magical season for the players and the fans, and on Sunday, they shared the moment together. The players signed autographs and posed for pictures.
This was the first season for the NWSL and the Thorns led the league in attendance by a long shot, averaging more than 13,000 a game.
The Thorns will be holding a free celebration at Jeld-Wen field Wednesday at noon.
