PORTLAND -- The first fans were in line at 1 a.m. at the Jeld-Wen Field box office for a chance at 2,000 single-game tickets for a playoff match Nov. 7.

Tickets are also available at portlandtimbers.com.

Megan Whitaker was among a handful of fans braving freezing temperatures at Jeld Wen.

"They're amazing. The Timbers are amazing," she told KGW, "How can you not support them. There will never be another time that they're in the playoffs for the first time ever in the MLS. It won't happen again!"

The team's first playoff match will be a 7 p.m. semi-final on the road this Saturday against the winner of a Wednesday "Knockout Round" match between the Seattle Sounder and Colorado Rapids.

Derek Espinoza, another fan in line Wednesday morning, said he hopes Colorado wins. Why? Because that means Seattle loses.

The semi-final round then moves to Jeld-Wen.

Don't want to wait in line?  On StubHub, they range from $70 in the corner Section 123, to $349 in the Key Bank Club section.

Should the Timbers continue to advance, the MLS championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 7.

The Timbers finished the 34-game regular season atop the Western Conference, with 57 points. The team had 14 wins, 5 losses and 15 ties. The team outscored opponents 54 goals to 33.

Coach Caleb Porter  gave a revealing interview to The Guardian newspaper about the reasons for a dramatic turnaround from prior seasons. He details his effort to "create something of an identity in terms of style in terms of how we wanted to play."
