EUGENE, Ore. -- South Medford High School forward E.J. Singler has signed a letter of intent to play at Oregon, Ducks coach Ernie Kent announced.

The 6-foot-6 Singler is the younger brother of Kyle Singler, one of the state's most touted prospects in recent years, who now plays at Duke.

The younger Singler, a senior this year at South Medford, averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks as a junior.

Singler also plays tight end and outside linebacker for the Panthers, who went 8-1 in the regular season.

"I wanted to play in the Pac-10 and stay close to home," Singler said in a statement released by Oregon. "The guys on the team were all very welcoming. I really connected with them. I just felt comfortable when I came up there on my visit."

Singler joins four Oregonians currently on the Ducks' roster: Ben Voogd of Florence, John Elorriaga and Garrett Sim of Portland and Drew Wiley of McKenzie River.

"We've watched E.J. for the last three years now, and have really seen him blossom and come into his own as a leader," Kent said. "He is one of the top players in the state and certainly someone who has the character and background -- in terms of coaching -- to be an outstanding player at this level."

The Ducks open this season Friday night against Northern Colorado. Oregon finished 18-14 overall and 9-9 in the Pac-10 last season.

On the women's side, 5-foot-11 wing Aliyah Green signed a letter of intent to play for the Ducks. Green played the last three seasons at Portland's Lincoln High School before transferring to Jefferson High this year.

The Oregon women open the season on Saturday at San Jose St. The Ducks finished 14-17 and 7-11 in conference last season.
