KENT, Wash. – A former Washington State University basketball star is missing and his pregnant wife fears something terrible has happened to him in Brazil.

Cougar fans might remember Tony Harris as the heart of the ‘94 Cinderella team that went to the NCAA. Since then he's been playing ball overseas. He became a star in Brazil.

“I don’t think he disappeared on his own,” said his wife, Lori Harris.

Just four weeks from her due date, Lori and her family are holding vigil in her Kent home.

Her husband, Tony, has simply vanished while playing professional basketball in Brazil.

Harris had landed at the airport in Brasilia last Wednesday to join his team mid-season. By Friday he had called home to say he felt his life was in danger in Brazil and he wanted to get out of the country.

“He said he began to feel unsafe,” said Lori. “He said it wasn't worth it, he just wanted to come home.”

Because Tony's passport was being held by the team, he couldn't fly, so he hopped a cab hoping to get out of the country. When the cab stopped for gas, Tony disappeared.

“They're really questioning the… taxi driver more and more, and of course he was the last person who was with him, so I don't think they are ruling him out at all,” said Connie Pace, Lori’s mother.

Tony is fluent in Portuguese, so communicating is not a problem.

The Brazilian military police has now taken over the investigation. They are considered far more capable and reliable than local authorities.
