SEATTLE -- The Washington Huskies didn't beat top-ranked USC, but they came close.

Coach Pete Carroll's Trojans overcame three turnovers, 16 penalties for 161 yards, a missed field goal and a blocked punt to edge the Huskies 27-24 Saturday night in Seattle.

Washington was a 20 1/2-point underdog.

Huskies redshirt freshman quarterback Jake Locker continued his erratic passing by missing three open receivers in or near the end zone for Washington, which lost its third consecutive game.

Locker finished 12-for-27 with 83 yards passing and one interception, plus another 50 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns. His final TD came after a blocked punt and with 34 seconds left.

USC then recovered the onside kick and could finally relax.

The victory gave the Trojans a 4-0 record and made them 2-0 in the Pac-10, while the Huskies dropped to 2-3, including 0-3 in the Pac-10.

Washington will have a bye next weekend. The Huskies' next game will be October 13 at Arizona State in Tempe.
