PORTLAND, Ore. -- Trail Blazers star rookie Greg Oden will host a summer event to raise awareness about the need for more mentors for Oregon youth.

The event dubbed “Greg’s Summer Slam: A Celebration of Team Oden” was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Rose Garden, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will not be an admission fee and children of all ages are invited. The fun will include many kid-friendly games and activities including video karaoke, inflatable bounce rooms, and mini golf as well as Oden’s personal favorites, Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution.

Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.

In addition to games, there will be live music and performances from the Trail Blazer Dancers, Blazers Stunt Team and the mascot, Blaze the Trail Cat.

Grateful for the influence mentoring has had on his life Oden decided to partner with the statewide organization, Oregon Mentors, according to public relations spokeswoman Kim Van Syoc. The upcoming event will be a celebration of mentors and children currently involved with the program as well as an opportunity for others to find out more about how to get involved.

The event will be held in at One Center Court in the Rose Garden Arena in Portland.
