Windes and Team USA edged Australia by a single goal to reach the gold medal match, then fell to the Netherlands by a single goal, 9-8.

It was the first Olympic medal for Windes, who graduated from Beaverton High School in 2003.

As a senior, she led the Beavers to the state championship. She also competed for four years on the varsity swim team before attending the University of California, where she was a three-time All American in water polo.

She joined the U.S. National Team in 2007.
