09:40 AM PDT on Wednesday, July 16, 2008
NEW YORK - Ichiro Suzuki, the only Seattle Mariner selected for the All-Star game, went 1-for-3 at the plate in the game last night, and threw out a National Leaguer at second base.
Suzuki singled in the third inning to right field, but was out when the next batter, the Yankees' Derek Jeter, grounded into a double play. Suzuki flied out to right field in the first inning and struck out swinging in the fifth inning.
In the fourth inning, Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals hit to Suzuki in right field, but Suzuki threw him out at second base as he tried to turn a single into a double.
The American League eventually won the game in the 15th inning, 4-3. It was played at Yankee Stadium.
