Wash. golfer advances in U.S. Amateur Championship

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Tim Feenstra of Lynden, Wash., was one of eight players Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, being played at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton.

Feenstra edged Brent Paladino of Kensington, Conn., 2-up. He will face 2004 U.S. Junior Amateur champion Sihwan Kim of Buena Park, Calif., in the lower-bracket quarterfinals Friday.

In the upper bracket quarterfinals, Georgia Tech's Kevin Larsen won two matches Thursday and will face Matt Savage of Louisville, Ky.; and Anthony Kim of Traverse City, Mich., will face Matt Harmon of Grand Rapids, Mich.

In the other lower-bracket quarterfinal, Casey Watabu of Kapaa, Hawaii, will meet Daniel Im of Fullerton, Calif.
