TIMBERLINE LODGE, Ore. -- There aren’t many places you can sit above the clouds and enjoy snow on a July afternoon. Mt. Hood is one of them. “It’s great, I get to snowboard in summer,” said Kelly Clark, 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist in Halfpipe. “Mt. Hood’s a great place to do that.” Clark is at a U.S. Team Training camp being held on Mt. Hood.

Some of the biggest names in the sport are here, including Olympic Gold Medalists Clark, Shaun White and Hannah Teter. Silver Medalist Gretchen Bleiler is also training on Mt. Hood.

“They’re all here to fine tune their game and get ready for Vancouver,” said Mike Jankowski, U.S. Head Coach for halfpipe.

“The first few days you’re definitely working on getting your bearings back,” said Clark. “It’s a slow process at first, just remembering how to do everything. Other than that, once you get it back together it’s a really great thing to work on new tricks.”

It’s especially nice for Jankowski, because he lives in Portland. “Mt. Hood, this is my home mountain,” said Jankowski. “I love being up here at Timberline. This is my 12th Summer up here on the glacier. I couldn’t pick a better place to be.”

The U.S. Squad will train through the weekend and they’re not alone. Riders from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and France are also training on Mt. Hood.
