Rays take Tigard's Morrison in 4th round
07:29 AM PDT on Friday, June 6, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Tampa Bay Rays selected Tigard High School's Ty Morrison with the first pick of the fourth round in Thursday's baseball draft.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound outfielder was the 113th overall selection.
He has signed to play baseball for the reinstated University of Oregon baseball team, but the Rays have until Aug. 15 to change his mind.
The speedy left-handed batter was the only high school or college player from Oregon selected in the first five rounds of the draft. There were four such players last season.
The teams finished six rounds Thursday and will complete 44 more on Friday.
