Costner hits the baseball field in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. -- Academy-award winning director Kevin Costner has been in plenty of baseball movies, from "Bull Durham" to "Field of Dreams."
Turns out, he's no slouch at the plate in real life, either.
Costner visited Eugene's Civic Stadium Friday to take some batting and infield practice, all in support of the just-restarted baseball program at the University of Oregon.
Costner, who won his Oscar for directing "Dances with Wolves" is a longtime friend of George Horton, the Ducks' head coach.
Costner's country-rock band, Modern West, also played two shows in Eugene to benefit the baseball team.
So, how did Costner do at the plate?
Pretty good: After whiffing his first few tries, he settled in for a series of consistent line drives down the third-base line.
