PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- According to a report released by the NCAA, four Portland State teams were penalized because of academic performance.
The NCAA's annual academic progress report showed more than 700 teams fell short of a mandated cut score. Of those, 218 were penalized with warning letters, potential reductions in scholarships and practice time and warned they face possible postseason bans.

Some were granted waivers by the governing body.
Portland State's wrestling, football, men's indoor track and men's basketball teams have been sanctioned.
The basketball team went to the NCAA tournament this past season for the first time in school history. It was put on public notice but no further action was taken.
As far as football, the Vikings will be limited to 27 scholarships on national letter of intent day for the 2009-2010 academic year.
