EUGENE, Ore. -- Hall of fame second basemen Bobby Doerr came to Oregon the winter before getting called up to the Red Sox. He has called Oregon home ever since.
On Monday, Doerr's 90th birthday, Gov. Ted Kulongoski proclaimed April 7 as Bobby Doerr Day.
Doerr never won a World Series but sported a 2004 World Series ring given to him by the Red Sox.
After the governor's proclamation at Autzen Stadium at the University of Oregon, Doerr gave Kulongoski the same model bat he used during his career.
