11:08 AM PST on Monday, February 18, 2008
A Portland mother of twins won NBC's new reality sports show, "American Gladiators" during the grand finale Sunday night and now she's preparing to compete next season as one of the gladiators.
Monica Carlson, 32, of Milwaukie, started out as one of 26 female contestants selected to compete in this season's reality sports show. First, she won her debut competion, then kept on advancing until making it into the grand finale with one other female competitor, Shanay Norvell from Atlanta, Ga. and two men.
Carlson won by racking up the points in each of the mini-competions that pit gladiators against regular people and then in the final event, she raced against Norvell and crashed through the finish line first.

The win earned Carlson $100,000 in cash, a new SUV and a part on the cast of the "American Gladiators" show next season.
She also got some time in the limelight during NBC's Today Show Monday morning and when asked what her name on next season's show will be, Carlson said she wants to leave that up to the public. The gladiators all have one-word names that describe their style and character, like Siren, Crush, and Fury.
Vote: Your ideas for her Gladiator name?
"I think America should vote on my name because I can't think of one specific name that sums me up," Carlson said.
